Predictions: 9 of 14 Winners, 3 Perfect, 540 Points   |   Tied for 1200th

Buckley vs. Arroyo
Antônio Arroyo, TKO, R2
Buckley will probably swing like crazy early in the fight, but Arroyo is a much more technical striker capable of working with body kicks from the start of the fight. In addition, in case of going to the ground, Arroyo has 4 victories by submission (mainly by arm-triangle choke). Arroyo despite being 0-2 in the UFC, his losses were against a ranked Muniz and against a Winn whom he beat in the first round with a good use of striking, but then he was surpassed by the takedown game of an Olympic Wrestler like Winn in the last 2 rounds.

PS: I don't usually comment on this type of thing but it seems to me that this card is probably a gambler paradise: Jackson, Blanchfield, Gravely, Impa and Tsarukyan are safe picks and at least the first 4 will be between -200 or less. (Besides that some other fights on the card could also have close or interesting odds).

This is a hard fight to pick, especially after the Walker fiasco against Spann. Had him done but made a huge mistake in fight IQ. That is exactly what Smith is good at taking advantage of, we know this. He gets his ass kicked and then if possible he makes a comeback.

Spann needs to keep this standing, while Smith does has good stand-up, Spann is going to hit much harder and quicker. Smith has little options on the feet, he'll have to try and get Spann down which could be hard depending on where Spann is at now.

This is most likely going Spann's way, if he fights smart.

Predictions: 8 of 13 Winners, 3 Perfect, 490 Points   |   Tied for 1879th

Smith vs. Spann
Anthony Smith, DEC
Trained a few times with Smith since he's been at both the gyms I've trained at in NE, and I won't ever pick against someone I've traded leather with. But this fight is one of the scarier match ups on the roster for him IMO. I like that he's been busy and not behind the desk a lot for the UFC, it definitely shows in his performances and he seemed in great shape when he came back from Colorado for a bit. Close fight where I give Smith technique and cardio but Spann definitely has 1 hitter quitter power.

Bush vs. Rong
Dakota Bush, SUB, R3
Bush is a good fighter. Hubbard is Kryptonite to guys like him and by all means he gave a decent account of himself. But where Hubbard shut him down I think Zhu will have no answers for Bush's forward pace and hyper-aggressive shots. Sadly a lot of these chinese MMA guys seem to have weak wrestling credentials, which is why the main success stories you see are ones like Li and Yadong who went to wrestling heavy camps to train. This is one of my most confident picks on this card.

Nchukwi vs. Rodriguez
Tafon Nchukwi, DEC
Mike Rodriguez is a lot better than he gets credit for. But it's like the matchmakers want him out of the UFC, cause they couldn't keep giving him worse stylistic fights, I think Rodriguez has top 20 potential but he wilts against people like Tafon. This fight is going to go down just like Tafon's fight with Pickett style wise. Not in my top three, but a very confident pick.

Maness vs. Gravely
Tony Gravely, DEC
Gravely is a dogs dog in the MMA wrestling game, and I don't know what Maness is going to bring to stop that in it's entirety. I think this fight is going to like lava flowing downhill. Dynamic and explosive in the first until Maness is just stuck solid underneath Gravely exhausted in the third.

Listen, I do think that Arman is going to win but my goodness -820 for the guy?  So the bookies make Arman a -820 but make Tom Aspinall a -220 the last card?  lol

Even Jack Shore wasn't even a -820 vs the TUF guy... he was -480 or around that range against the TUF guy

Christos Giagos has 4 dominant wins in the UFC and he is +570... crazy!

I can agree with those odds, I was thinking more like -900. I don’t understand this matchup at all, it has to be some kind of politics behind it, no way Arman should be fighting Christos

Spann's made a few huge mistakes in his big spots against Walker and against Robertson on Contender Series. Both came about from striking exchanges, where he's supposed to have his best advantage. Doesn't it just feel like Smith will eat big shots, then grab a standing kimura or something?

Guys like Glover and Rakic can stay composed for the full fight. Anything less and Smith just seems like he'd find his chance.

I have watched Smith since Strikeforce, he is one of my favourite fighters. This is a dangerous fight for him, especially at the damage he has taken. I love the guy as a colour commentator, as a person, but this is a bad fight for him.

I actually disagree, he'll definitely be in trouble, but Spann seems tailor made for a Smith finish. He's gotten caught enough times before by guys that don't fold for me to think Anthony catches him eventually.

I'd say Jimmy Crute is far deadlier on the feet, so Anthony kicked his leg off. And he just keeps finding ways to win. Spann is on the lower end of fight IQ compared to most of Smith's recent opponents. I don't know exactly how, but I think he'll find a path to victory.

This is possibly one of the worst fights Buys could have taken on short notice. Taking a fight a weight class up is already bad, but against someone on the level of Montel Jackson? This just spells the death of Buys all around.

@modestman makes a good point. I did expect a better matchup for Tsarukyan in the rankings. Giagos could be on the last fight of his contract and is banking on winning to get a higher increase in pay for a new contract. UFC is notorious for giving a fighter in his last fight, who won't renew before his last fight, a absolute nightmare of a matchup. So Giagos has no legs to stand on.
